What is this red, hard bubble on my gum after my tooth extraction?
Could be an abcess. Call your dentist pronto!

Reply:The first two answers could be right or it could also be a blood clot. Whatever you do, don't try and pop it or remove it. Like they said, call your Dentist ASAP.
Reply:maybe the pressure from the extraction and the tools the dentist used cause some irratation to the gum area.
Reply:Depending on the seriousness, size and coloration of the bubble, it could just be a inflamation reaction to the hole in your gums. This could be natural or abnormal, so contact your dentist to let him know. Dont start freaking out yet!

Why is it important not to touch the white area surronding my tooth extraction site with my tongue?
I had a tooth pulled on the 2nd and everything is fine. And I have a white area that is surronding my tooth extraction site which is normal. I was told that i should not touch this area with my tongue or finger.I was wondering if anyone knew why?

I have numbness on my chin and lip after my wisdom tooth extraction. Has this happened to anyone else?
I had a very difficult extraction of my lower wisdom tooth by an oral surgeon. The procedure lasted over an hour and consisted of the dentist drilling little pieces of my tooth off to get it out. Since I am 28yrs old the dentist told me the roots were wrapped around my nerve so I may have numbeness, which I do. Has anyone else expereicned this? How long before the sensation came back?
I have numbness on my chin and lip after my wisdom tooth extraction. Has this happened to anyone else?
This is a complication that while not common is experienced by all dentist and especially Oral Surgeons in the removal of teeth. Just make sure to call your dentist and keep him informed. Especially, when new symptoms arise. If the nerve is just bruised it will return relatively quickly 2-3 weeks. If the nerve was damaged a bit more it could take several months. Just be aware when you are eating hot food to approach from the side that still has sensation so that you don't burn your self. Avoid chewing gum and anything that might cause you to bite yourself.

One more thing, if it starts to feel all prickly like tiny needles poking you that is a good thing thats the nerve repairing itself.

Reply:No one can tell you. The nerves were at least displaced inorder to remove the teeth. Could be weeks. Could belonger. Be patient. You can stimulate the area by rubbing it; it may or maynot help.
Reply:too much novacaine, yes, I have experienced it, a few hours after the dental surgery.
Reply:I didn't have this, but I was "a little older" when I had mine pulled, too, and was repeatedly cautioned that this was a possibility. A friend of ours did go numb, but I believe it lasted a few (2 or 3) weeks for him. I'm sorry that happened, hope it goes away soon! My only complication was a dry socket and that hurt pretty bad. I was wondering from anyone who has knowledge on the subject. If my tooth currently is infected, will my dentist still do the extraction. This is a new dentist that I have never been to so she does not know my dental history but I really do feel this tooth needs to be pulled. Its badly decayed and has already had a root canal.

get your previous dentist to send the history to the new one. ask your gynec. if you can have dental work done right now and if there are any meds you need to avoid. a tooth can be pulled while you are awake or you may be able to be put out - which i'm thinking you're going to be better awake - depending on medical history and status. i had all my wisdom teeth pulled while i was in my 3rd trimester. the oral surgeon saw me in my 2nd and said he wanted to wait till i was in my 3rd. he was not a regular dentist for me either. my dentist referred me to him. the surgeon is the one who said to wait till my 3rd tri. since it wasn't an emergency. in your case though - talk to both the dentist and your ob dr to see what they recommend. the ob knows your pregnancy status and can talk to the dentist if need be.

How do I know if I'm getting a dry socket from a tooth extraction?
I had a back top right tooth pulled on Thursday. I've been very careful, but at the same time I've also been an idiot and had a few smokes while puffing VERY lightly. My extraction point hasn't hurt very much at all and by last night, I could barely notice it. After an "Intimate" night with my wife, I woke up this morning and I can feel some very small throbbing. Nothing painful, but I'm paranoid...
How do I know if my blood clot fell out (I cant see the hole because it was my very back right tooth and my gums and cheek block any clear visibility)? If it did, HOW LONG AFTER that clot fell out do I experience the severe pain I've been reading about associated with Dry Socket?
i.e. Is the pain instant, does it take a few days? or Is this small throb a sign of the onset of dry socket? Please Help. 10pts for great explination of what to expect... Thank You in advance!!

Dont fiddle with your tongue there and hold off smoking for the next two days (yeah two days! sorry). The reason it forms is that the healing is impaired either by mechnical irritation, smoking included.

For how long does it hurt after just one wisdom tooth extraction?
I got a wisdom tooth out 2 days ago, it was just with local freezing, nothing major. It didn't hurt that much the day I got it out. Yesterday, the day after the extraction, it hurt a bit on and off, in the morning and in the evening. Today it actually hurt more, the adjacent tooth throbbing like crazy.
Is this normal?

Reply:I got four wisdom teeth taken out at the same time. I was knock out for three days. I didn't feel any pain. I don't think that you should be feeling more pain as the days prolong. It should be healing and getting better. Go to the dentist and have him take a look at it again. It's better to be safe than sorry.

With a regular extraction, the dentist would normally pull the gum away from the tooth and clamp onto it and pull, providing the root system was not a series of J's and hooks. Usually, pain will persist the following three days after an extraction of any kind. Expect to heal quickly. Also ask your dentist for a prescriptopn of Peridex.
Reply:Yep. Get a scrip for Vicodin. If they get stupid with you and deny this, make a pest of yourself and keep calling to let them know that the weak stuff they gave you doesn't work. Stick to your guns. Ever hear of Dr. Dean? He's the famous radio talk show doctor. When asked if he were stranded on a desert island and could have access to only one medication, he said "Vicodin". It has so many different uses besides pain, from cough control to 'regularity' if you eat something bad in a restraunt. So get your pain meds. You have a right to them.

On the day they were extracted it was not really sore, then yesterday it felt more uncomfortable than painful, but today it is throbbing. My guess is that it is pretty typical, particularly given that we have the same sort of experiences.

Military healthcare question? Can my wife get a referal for Wisdom tooth extraction from the on base dentist.?
My wife is enrolled in tricare dental, but even with it the cost of wisdom tooth extraction will still probably be close to 800 dollars. I'm only an E-3 so 800 dollars is a huge chunk of my monthly pay. I got a referal from the on base dentist and it was paid for 100 percent. Will they allow spouses to get the same referals?

Let me start by saying unfortunately there is a slim chance you're wife will be able to have her tooth extracted on base, most base facilities only cover the active duty member.
Regarding the $800, that seems very high even if it needs to be cut out, has she been seen by an oral surgeon? I ask, because you didn't say in your information. If that was a direct quote, I would see someone else. If not, one will see her for a free evaluation with a referral from her dentist. They can also let her know what your portion would be, if I remember correctly it's less than 40%.
Most oral surgeons also have financing plans available if it's too expensive, but there is one other option like someone else mentioned. You can go to your branch’s relief society, they give money assistance for things like this. However, before you can be given the money they make you take a budget class, no matter what your rank is.
I had to have all four of mine removed (two cut out, which is more costly than pulling) before the military would allow me to come overseas with my husband and the total cost was over $1200 and we had to pay only $300. I avoided having them removed for years because I was afraid of the actual cost out of our pocket, but it ended up not being too terribly much in the scheme of things.
Good luck with this and just ignore the people who feel they need to be rude and negative!
