dry sockets are painful,but sois phantom pain the nerves have been tampered with were your tooth wasextacted-you may feel it off and on for two or so more weeks.rinse your mouth with salt walterif its a canker sore abreva or generic will ease it,use salt water swish and spit.
Reply:sounds like dry socket to me...i'd go back asap. they should've given you some type of prescription vicodin. try taking 2 extra strength tylenols. leave some ice on your cheek (wrap a paper towel around the ice pack) for about 10-15 minutes. then give your cheek about a 5 min. break from it. call tomorrow and tell them its really bothering you. if you cannot stand it anymore(pain is 8-10, 10 being the worst) and they are not there..go to the ER, they'll give you some medicine

Reply:You could have dry socket.. you could have gotten some food stuck in the extraction site.
Have you ever had a tooth pulled before? Your jaw will ache for awhile as your gums are healing...but one thing you also need to remember is that your jaw is bone and the tooth was ripped out of threre. You will have pain for awhile and if you are not use to it or don't have a high tolerance for pain, than what you are feeling is normal. As the jaw heals you will also itch on that side

If the pain is getting worse, you might be getting an infection. If the pain overall is decreasing, its probably nothing to worry about.

Blood from tooth extraction?
I had 2 teeth extracted on Saturday (so 3 days ago now). It was a very difficult extraction %26amp; they did stitch it up. It took approximately 7 hours before it finally stopped bleeding for the most part, than for about another 12 hours it bled very slightly to where I didn't have to keep gauze in my mouth constantly. If I put a gauze pad in my mouth %26amp; put it up against the extraction site %26amp; hold it there for a couple of seconds than take it out, it has just a very small drop or two of blood, not enough to where I have to keep using gauze though. My pain hasn't increased but hasn't really decreased much, however the dentist said he expected me to be in pain for a while %26amp; even gave me some hydrocone today as the ibuprofen 800mg he originally gave me wasn't doing no good %26amp; I ran out of those as it was. Since the pain hasn't increased I don't believe I have dry socket. From my last extractions in past I was in pain for about a week. My question is, is the blood drops on the gauze normal?

if you had a dry sockett, you would be in a lot more pain. So I think you are safe there. The drops of blood are normal to healing, especially if it was surgical. Also when you eat, the food can mess with the blood clot forming and cause the drips of blood. I would not worry about it

If by then you SLOWLY and CAREFULLY pull it out and you are still bleeding go back to your dentist. (hint: It is important to have the gauze a little damp otherwise if it were dry it could pull any scabbing or stitches straight out....

Is tooth extraction compulsory for doing braces?
is it a must a extract teeth out before u can have braces on?
also is the extraction of teeth painful? will the doctor numb the gums and teeth or will he put u to sleep? can u choose to be asleep? if the doctor use anethestic will i feel pain when he is extracting?
also, putting on braces does not hurt,it only hurts after the whole procedure? am i correct? can anyone tell me how the pain feels like? thanks

A tooth extraction is not difficult and doesn't require much recovery. The doctor will numb your gums and within 20 minutes you're done. There's no reason to go to sleep-you will feel pressure but you shouldn't feel any pain.
Braces will be an alternating feeling of pain and comfort. When you have your wires tightened, it will be a dull ache. However, as long as you keep on the Advil you wlll be fine.

braces arent so bad. its only when you get the braces tightened once a month or whatever that hurts. its just an achey feeling and it hurts for a couple days after but its worth it in the end because youll have a fabulous shmile.

Wisdom tooth extraction appt set (but I found an absess)....?
I am supposed to have my four wisdom teeth out on Friday (the 18th). Just brushed and flossed my teeth and saw that I have an absess and it just burst with fluid. I called the oral surgeons office but it's now closed this late in the afternoon. I will call back in the AM. I'm guessing they will give me antibiotics, but will they make me reschedule my surgery/extraction? I have to start back to college on the 24th. I cannot reschedule this appointment, and if I did, it would have to wait till the middle of december when I'm out of school. Anyone had this happen as far as an infection right before the extraction appt.??

If you don't have any soreness under the corner of your lower jaw, it will probably be fine for Friday's appointment. But....... Do be sure to call first thing on Thursday so they have the option of starting you on an antibiotic if they feel it is needed.

Smoking after tooth extraction?
i have just been to the dentist to have a back tooth taken out, he said before he started that i shouldn't smoke for 3 days. However, i seem to have very stubborn teeth with extra long roots, and he could only get half out, i'm going back to have the other half taken out on friday. Thats means 6 days of no smoking. Why is it that you shouldn't smoke after tooth extractions.

I don't think I'd last 6 days without a ciggie.

u dont require to quit smoking for 3 days but it it the first 24hrs after tooth removal that are crucial and u are instructed not to smoke. after this time u can smoke in limits and just take care to keep the extraction site very clean to prevent infection.

Question regarding wisdom tooth extraction claim with unicare?
Heres my situation, im 17 and i just got 3 wisdom teeth pulled because of on/off pains since they were coming in. The problem now is that my mom had to put like $400 up front because apparently Unicare (i have a Unicare Platinum PPO) says that wisdom teeth extraction isnt covered by dental and that it has to be forwarded to medical claims. The weird thing is that my cousins got their wisdom teeth pulled a year or two before me and they have the same provider/plans since both our dads work in the same place and it was completely covered but my aunt cant find the insurance record from that time. I normally think wisdom teeth extraction is covered by the dental plan since there are only a lucky few in the world who have perfect teeth and dont need to get it pulled. Now my problem is that im not sure if my dental office is filling the claim correctly or what since i/my parents also thought it would be covered. My dental officed filled the claim as partial bony %26amp; soft tissue extraction

Particial bony means that part of the tooth was located under the bone, and they had to cut it away. SOft tissue means the tooth was under the gum and an incision had to be made to get to the tooth. Every tooth, including wisdom teeth, will have it's own set of circumstances. The code is based on what conditions exhist in the mouth, and how difficult it is to extract it. The dentist may think it is only under the gum, then get inside to find bone on top of the tooth, and have to change the procudeure in the middle. Try getting a copy of the claim form and the phone number to the insurance company. Call them and ask why they are not covering it. The insurance companies are much nicer to the patient than they are to the dental office. Remember the insurance companies do not WANT to pay, so it is often a struggle to make them pay.

however, the trigger for it to be covered on the health plan was the fact that they were impacted. if they were not impacted they would have been covered by dental.
i had BCBS PPO and Delta Dental at the time.

I have a co-worker who had the procedure done (same group plan) and his was NOT COVERED by medical, so the dentist sends the EOB to Dental insurer and they covered. His procedure must have been full bony. My claim was accepted as covered on all line items, even though only one was a soft tissue extraction. Of course, medical applies to deductible first and therefore I pay the first $400. If they had not covered the whole claim, my dental deductible would have been used, which was only $50. I've researched this to death. They really try hard not to give you information that you can use. I've almost got it figure out though on how to proceed.
