After a tooth extraction can the infection spread to other teeth/tooth?

I had my infected tooth extracted over a week ago, is it possible for other tooth or teeth next to it hurt for a while or even get infectected cuz of it?

My dentist told me no, not as long as I took good care of the teeth around that one, but it seemed to be "spreading" to me. Oh well. Sorry I don't really have an answer, because I don't really believe my dentist. I'd have it checked if I was you anyway just to be on the safe side, you don't want to loose another tooth.
Reply:well who ever said no is wrong a tooth infection can and does spread,i had a bad tooth it was pulled and the tooth next it also got infected after i had the first one pulled,your dentist should have givien you meds to clear up the infection before removing it
Reply:you should be on antibiotics to help clear the infection, because yes it can spread and it can possibly get in your blood stream. amoxicillin or clindamycin are possible antibiotics you should be on.
