Wisdom tooth extraction hurts after 5 days?

I had my lower wisdom tooth out 5 days ago. It took a while for the dentist to get it out. Despite the painkillers it still hurts so badly it makes my head ache. I can't even stand to open my mouth wide enough to look at it. Could there be something wrong?

You might have what they call "dry socket". When you have your tooth pulled, they don't want you to smoke or drink from a straw, etc, because they want a blood clot to form over the socket. The reason is so that the socket can heal, and does not get food trapped in it.

Did you go back to the dentist soon after the extraction?? If not, you should have, and you should go back asap. If you did, I would still call them. They may need to pack it with gauze (to act as the blood clot).

I had mine pulled last Monday, and it only hurt for the first 2 days, even though I began to get dry socket. I went back 2 days after extraction and had it packed.

Definitely call your dentist as soon as you can. They will more than likely be able to get you in same day or next day if you make sure to tell them it's an emergency.

Good luck hun.
Reply:Yes, something is probably wrong, possibly what they call a "dry socket". See your dentist.
Reply:Owww man, its gonna hurt for a while!

ughhhh i feel your pain! got mine 3 days ago! hurst like crap!!
Reply:There is nothing seems to be wrong with the procedure done ....it was a surgical extraction of your wisdom tooth.

I hope the wound has been healed and you dont have a dry socket .It may take couple of days to be normal as before try like warm galss of water by adding table spoon of salt and rinse every 2 hours which will avoid any forth coming infection in the wound .....dont worry you will be alright in few days !
