Is extraction the only solution for an infected tooth?

My son is 2 1/2. He had a big fall and injured his front teeth...which healed. Then many moths lated he had a second fall...but this time a swollen ball formed on one of the teeth. I decided to watch it for a week but I don't know how I forgot it. I remembered 3 months later...I have been beating myself up for the past week. Now there is second ball of flesh dangling on the second tooth...both bleed. I took him to the dentist who said the infection got too far. A second person at the office said it was bad...and he removed the two teeth. I have been crying since we got in the car...and I cried beside his bed when he slept. I don't know how I forgot it, I am usually very careful esp with heath issues. I am very sad because he will have that smile until he gets his permanent teeth. Was extraction the only solution?

I believe there are other ways for healing an infected tooth, but when a tooth becomes infected, it's necessary to remove the source of infection through root canal therapy.

So basically it is the most common solution for it, but I would recommend you to do the extraction, as if your dentist did indeed said the infection was bad enough, it is because it has gone too far. I said you go for it and I feel sorry for your son though. :(

I hope my answer helped and hope you have luck with whatever you do with your son's teeth.

BEST OF LUCK! :)
Reply:all depends in how much is the tooth affected. go with your dentist if his answer don't convince u go for a second opinion i will go for the extraction because probably the tooth will never heal 100%
