Tooth extraction aftercare?

i've had one of my molars out two days ago, and a absess was found beneath it. i was prescribed antibiotics, i think to help the absess go away. my teeth are now itchy and i feel like i want to wobble them around all the time. also, there is white stuff in the gums where my tooth used to be, which makes me cringe to touch with my tongue.

here's what i want to know;

-what is the white stuff?

-if i brush the area, will the white stuff go away?

-why are my teeth itching?

-is it safe to use mouthwash such as corsodil or lystering on the area.

thank you!!

Tooth extraction aftercare?
OK, to keep there area clean you should rinse with luke warm salt water and try to hold it on the "wound" for a few seconds, this will help you heal and keep the area nice and clean. The last thing you want is an infection and belive me that's no fun! As for the "white stuff" I can only assume its plaque, with a clean piece of gauze you could gently wipe that away, you can buy this from the chemist. I wouldn't go poking around there or try to brush it away. As for your teeth aching, i take it you mean the teeth either side of the extracted one? This will settle down in a few days, the dentist probably had to do a bit of proding and poking so sometimes things feel like they've got worse instead of better, don't worry if you are in pain just take what ever pain killers you would normally take and that should do the trick. Corsodyl is good as its main use is for gum probs as far as Listerine goes theres nothing in that, that will do any good or harm for that matter it just tastes nice. Hope this helps and things settle down.
Reply:Best thing you can do is use warm salt and water mouthwashes several times a day. Much better than all those commercial products and cheaper too. It acts as anantiseptic and it will leave your mouth feeling fresher. Don't brush the cavity.... give it a chance to heal...the white stuff is just part of the healing process....it will go as the wound heals.

Don't know why your teeth are itching...never heard of that before...maybe just a reaction to the anaesthetic.
Reply:Can't help you with the itchy teeth that is something I have never experienced, but the white stuff is good as it is showing the area is getting better, and yes cordysl is great for it and will keep it very clean and safe. The antibiotics will deal with any residual infection.

Sorry about the itchy teeth as I said new one for me!
Reply:1) White stuff is normal could be plaque build up or the gum is healing.

2) If it's plaque then of course it will go away.

3)Your teeth are itchy because the wound is healing, it's like a scab.

4)You can use Lysterine if you like, you dentist or surgeon should have given you a syringe so you can spray water into the extraction area to keep clean.
