Is it right to say that RCT removes part of a tooth whereas extraction removes the whole tooth?

is that the difference between a root canal and an extraction? because they both sound the same to me. and is it right to say that crowning is something like a 'fake' tooth? like dentures? so why can't crowning follow an extraction?

Is it right to say that RCT removes part of a tooth whereas extraction removes the whole tooth?
A root canal procedure removes the blood and nerve supply to the tooth. This is accomplished by accessing the pulp chamber through the top of the tooth. Each canal is disinfected and sterilized. An inert material is placed in the cleaned canals in order to prevent bacteria from colonizing the canal again in the future. The entire external portion of the tooth remains intact for a root canal procedure. This is strikingly different from an extraction in which the whole tooth is removed from the mouth.

When teeth are missing, dentists can make "bridges" to replace teeth. This requires teeth in front and behind the missing spaces. These adjacent teeth are shaved down and crowns with fake floating teeth called pontics are cemented in permanently. There are other options such as implants or partial dentures for missing teeth.
Reply:i'm no dentist but logically crowning couldn't follow an extraction because there is nothing left to hook the crown onto... after a root canal they form the remaining portion of the tooth into a cone that the crown is glued onto... this can only be done because there is something there to glue it to... in a full extraction there's nothing like that
Reply:root canal removes only the root and the extraction removes the tooth completely...all gone. the root canal allows the tooth to stay there with a filling and a crown.

you can crown an extraction because ther is nothing there to crown
Reply:huh?
Reply:Rct only removes and cleans where the nerve has been, which is replaced with a kind of rubber material (gutta percha), basically the whole tooth is left, lots of ppl think RCT removes the root but it doesnt,

Reply:ROOT CANAL TREATMENT (RCT) is done on a tooth that you may want to save vs extraction that removes the tooth and roots after its gone there is no coming back.

RCT removes the nerves in the root of the tooth and the tooth stays in the mouth. This tooth with the nerves removed can then be kept with out toothaches. But most have to be covered with a crown or a type of cap to protect the tooth from breaking.

If you can afford to save do the RCT if you cant you will have to extract it and its gone.
Reply:A root canal removes the nerve inside the root. It removes none of the tooth. A crown is like a thimble or a hat that is placed over the crown of your existing tooth. It is for protection, not replacement.
