It's been three days since my wisdom teeth extraction. Theres a big goop of blood stuck together on the bottom right side of my mouth. It wont move out that spot. It's on the side cheek and i dont know if its a clot that came out the hole. The area doesnt really hurt. Does anyone know?
How do i know if my blood clot came out, of my tooth extraction?
Don't worry. Whatever that was that came out was probably a combo of a blood clot and food debris that accumulated in the last three days. The important thing is that you are not bleeding now and it doesn't hurt. Your dentist should have given you a syringe and told you to wash that tooth socket to prevent food particles from collecting it in. Just keep the area clean.
Reply:Sando, I disagree when you say, "Your dentist should have given you a syringe and told you to wash that tooth socket to prevent food particles from collecting it in." I prefer NOT to do this for most extractions. It encourages people to rinse out the blood clot. I only dispense the syringe to dry socket patients after they are done with all the dressing changes and need to keep the defect clean while it fills in. I'm only bringing this up so the questioner doesn't get mad at the dentist for not doing what your answer suggests should always be done.
Reply:I had a bottom molar extracted one week ago and a blood clot formed within 30 minutes, and I was told not to brush the area or use mouth wash, or to gargle with salt water for at least 2 days, and then to gently gargle 2-3 times/day with salt water for the next 7 days, and it's healing beautifully so far.
Reply:that might possibly be a place that you might have accidentally chewed on while you were numb. but you say it doesn't hurt? just leave it alone and call you dental office and ask them if they would just take a look to be sure everything is ok
