Is tooth extraction compulsory for doing braces?
Yes, it's necessary in some cases.

A tooth extraction is not difficult and doesn't require much recovery. The doctor will numb your gums and within 20 minutes you're done. There's no reason to go to sleep-you will feel pressure but you shouldn't feel any pain.

Braces will be an alternating feeling of pain and comfort. When you have your wires tightened, it will be a dull ache. However, as long as you keep on the Advil you wlll be fine.
Reply:I had 4 permanent and 2 baby teeth removed, but that was because of tooth crowding. It depends on how much room there is for the teeth. It does not hurt to have teeth extracted. No big deal to have braces on either.
Reply:I'm not sure about the first question, but the pain hurts for about 2-5 days. Sometimes a week long. The pain is undesirable. And it only hurts after the whole thing is DONE!
Reply:i had five teeth pulled for my braces but that was ONLY because my teeth were crowded. if youre teeth arent crowded then you wont need pulling. if they do need to pull teeth of course you will be under anastesia (sp?) and if you close your eyes its not so bad, just tugging and pressure, no pain.

braces arent so bad. its only when you get the braces tightened once a month or whatever that hurts. its just an achey feeling and it hurts for a couple days after but its worth it in the end because youll have a fabulous shmile.

i feel your pain though, i do. :x
Reply:extraction is not always necessary, differs from case to case

extractions should not be painful, you will pressure....no pain
Reply:ask your dentists about an appliance, which is a plastic thing you wear in your mouth to make room for your teeth so they dont need to pull any. however, you usually still need braces after that.

most dentists will numb up the gums and teeth before any extractions.

braces only hurt the day after they are put on. headache medicine works well for that
Reply:You should really be asking your orthodontist all of these questions because each person's treatment is unique. Both my kids had braces and neither one of them had to have teeth extracted. If you do have to have teeth taken out, the type of anesthesia depends somewhat on you. If it's only one tooth, say, the doctor might use a local anesthetic which will only deaden the area where the tooth is. If the extractions need to be more extensive or if you have anxiety, a general anesthetic would be called for.
