If u take antibiotics after tooth extraction cuz of infection on other tooth will the infection come back?

They say antibiotics are a temporary measure becuz the source of the problem is still there, but my question is what about infection after extraction, if infection sets in after extraction does that mean the antibiotics wont do good for the long term? cuz if ur gona take antibiotics after extraction then u will lose all ur teeth, i know they shud be taken before extraction but infection does set in afterwards, any input on this? thanks.

If u take antibiotics after tooth extraction cuz of infection on other tooth will the infection come back?
Huh? If there is an infection in a tooth, and that tooth is removed, then the source is out and the antibiotics should end the infection.

If the infection is in a tooth that has not yet been removed, then stronger antibiotics may be necessary. But if the antibiotics really do get rid of the infection, then the infection shouldn't come back. Now, you could get another infection, or you might not have gotten rid of it in the first place, but it shouldn't magically reappear later . . . .

I haven't had a tooth extracted when infection was involved, but I did have an infection in my jaw after oral surgery. The first round of antibiotics didn't take care of it, but a second round of stronger antibiotics did . . . .
Reply:yes if you don't take them for the prescribed time period i.e. 10 days - make sure you finish them.
Reply:If you are taking antibiotics because of a problem with another tooth, but this other tooth has not itself been root canalled or extracted, then yes the infection will come back. The extracted tooth has nothing to do with this.

Rarely does an extraction site get infected after an extraction. Since the source of the infection is now gone and drainage has been established, infection is not a usually problem. (It could be in a medically compromised patient, or someone with a very weak immune system).

A much more common post extraction problem is Dry Socket. But dry socket is an inflammation of the bone because a blood clot has not properly formed in the extraction socket, or has been lost completely. It is not infection.

Hope this helps, the question was a little hard to read.
Reply:if you take full doze it should kill infection if it does not new prescription may be required
Reply:i got my teeth pulled and got NO antibiotics, so i don't know...
Reply:No it wont. But c ur doctor to make sure.
Reply:Any antibiotic prescribed for a specific infecion will kill it off so long as you follow the insructions correctly.

You will not lose all your teeth except to your own negligence.
Reply:Antibiotics just help the immune system fight infection. Your dentist is just wanting to prevent infections like endocarditis, which can be life threatening. Other infections that develop after you have healed shouldn't have anything to do with the surgery.
Reply:Don't drink alcoholic beverages and rinse often with warm salt water and you'll be just fine
Reply:If your Dentist gave you a script for antibiotics, take them as directed by the dentist and as directed on the bottle. Also take them all.

Lot's of people have a tendency to stop taking meds when they feel better. With antibiotics, this can cause more problems. Always follow the directions given to you.
Reply:I'm confused but I will say what I do know. First an extraction on an infected tooth is painful because the infection doesn't get numb. Second, it can also spread the infection worse if it isn't treated with an antibiotic. Also, if you have bad gums and your teeth are in bad shape it is the only way to prevent pain from constant abscesses so, I think what they are doing is the best they can do for the situation. If you could have all the bad teeth out at the same time they would want you to be on an antibiotic also to prevent a deep infection in the jaw bone or the gums. Also, it has been found in recent years that the infection can actually travel to the brain and they have also found the same exact bacteria from gum diseased heart patients after they die in their hearts. So, the health of your teeth is really important and trying to keep the infection out is what they have to do. You really need to get it all done and go from there. You will feel much better. Find a clinic that will charge based on income or something. I wish you luck and hope I have helped you some. I don't want to scare you but, information is better than ignorance...this way you can try to take care of yourself. Love coming your way. Miss Mary
Reply:Always take all the pills that the doctor gives you etc never stop the course unless advised to do so... hope your teeth get better i also have a problem like this and often on anti-biotics.

good luck
Reply:Antibiotics are to boost your body's infection fighting ability. I only take them when nessasary. Sometimes infections can be got in a open wound such as when a tooth has been extracted. thats why you should take antibiotics after extractions.
