Severe pain normal after wisdom tooth extraction?

I had my upper left wisdom tooth extracted about 12 hours ago. The dentist had a tough time getting it out, a lot of drilling, tugging, and yanking. About after 10 minutes he was able to get it out. Took xrays and appeared to get it all out. I've been taking the 800mg of Ibuprofen every 4-6 hours, but I still have pretty bad pain. Enough where I am unable to go to sleep. I don't think I have "dry socket". At what point should I be concerned? Reading 75% of of the folks talking about this extractions on here seems to be a cakewalk compared to mine.

Can take a couple of days to settle down when I had mine out i needed tramadol which is much stronger than ibruprofen. Give it a couple of days and if not better go back to the dentist who will clean and dress it with iodine which really helps it heal and also numbs the pain.

If you had dry socket you would know as it's bloody agony ! Any good dentist will be more than happy to have a look and make sure it's OK (otherwise they risk a big pay out if you sue their *** for negligence). Give it to this time tomorrow and if no better get an emergency appointment.

Hope all goes well !
Reply:mine hurt aswell when i had mine taken out, the pain will go soon.
Reply:don't worry - it is quite normal to have pain for a couple of days. stick to your ibuprofen to make it bearable. if it's not better after 3 days, you should go and see your dentist again.
Reply:It goes, dont worry. The best thing for Toothache is something warm like a hot water bottle and just place and hold it where it hurts.
