Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

I had my wisdom teeth (all four) extracted about a month ago. My lower left jaw was a "problem" (difficult extraction on the nerve) according to the Oral Surgeon. I still have numbness on the lower left side of my face in my chin and lip area, I can't open my mouth wide enough to eat a sandwich without pain (which I wake up with every a.m. but gets lesser throught the day) and some days I have pain all day. Is this normal? When I had my check back he said everything looked "great". Could he have hyperextended my jaw or something?

Wisdom Tooth Extraction?
The dentist I work for cautions people about this very problem: if, based upon an x-ray it looks like the roots of a tooth are laying right on the mandibular nerve, there is a risk of temporary parasthesia. It sounds like this may be what you have. When that tooth came out perhaps the roots were touching the nerve, and it caused some damage that you still feel a month after the procedure. It does go away, I cannot remember after how long, and probably accounts for your pain as well. I would still talk to your oral surgeon and ask him about this.
Reply:call him up and tell him that you're having this problem. it doesn't sound normal. you need to TELL HIM that you have a problem he can't guess it.
