Wisdom tooth extraction?

I had one of my wisdom teeth extracted today, which turned out to be not so bad. I tried asking my dentist this question, but most of the time I can't understand him, because of his accent. I am just curious - why is it that you cannot smoke/drink from a straw, etc after extraction? I asked while I was there, but I have no idea what he said and I didn't want to sound rude.

Serious answers only please...don't answer to be a jerk, I have no problem with reporting people.

Wisdom tooth extraction?
You can develop what is called dry sockets in the open space where the tooth has been extracted. IT's when air is trapped down there which could cause big problems for you. And they take time to go away. Those are extremely painful. Hope this helps.
Reply:the place where your tooth was has been packed with 'stuff' to stop bleeding. any kind of sucking motion will harm that procedure.
Reply:After the extraction a blood clot will form at the site. You need to be sure it stays as it will prevent a :dry socket". A dry socket will be very painful. You would need to go back and have dentist pack it. Not rude to ask questions. Good Luck!
