Question about eating after a tooth extraction?

I developed an infection in a wisdom tooth 2 days ago, and this afternoon I had an emergency extraction. I am in so much pain, but I AM STARVING! I have not eaten since the pain began! I know they say not to eat for a certain period of time, and then when you do, only soft foods. It's only been 2 hours since the bastard was yanked out, is there anything at all I could safely eat this soon? Anything besides broth? *ack*

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Question about eating after a tooth extraction?
I also had an emergency extraction on my wisdom tooth and I was in killer pain but I still ate anything I wanted....as long as you smash it up a bit or put it through the blender. Eat anything you want just make sure that you cut it in tiny bits and then smush it up into a ball that you can nibble at with the good side!

I know you're really hungry, but NIBBLING will allow you to eat anything you want buddy...just nibble really slow...I got away with eating a hamburger a few hours after my surgery, I just had to nibble it and it took me about 30 minutes to eat it, but trust me, it works....

But, If you are really really hurting badly and the pain killers aren't kicking in yet because it may take a few hours for them to kick in full force, then just maybe try for now:

yogurt

applesauce

pudding

mashed potatoes

fruit smoothie

cooked noodles

scrambled eggs

But, for about 2 days eat kind of gently and slowly so you don't pull the clot out of the gum area.
Reply:food particles can get in the socket and it will become.. abscessed.. Report It

Reply:ice cream?
Reply:Anything that is soft and not too strongly flavoured. Soup is a good plan though... If you chew on the other side then you'll probably be ok, just make sure that you don't get any food stuck in there cos you'll cause infection.
Reply:anything you dont have to chew will be fine. mash up some bananas, anything soft to begin with, or add crushed crackers to your broth. it makes it taste lots better
Reply:When I got mine out I ate about 2 and a half hours after, You can eat mashed potatoes and maybe some pudding or Jello! Or even a nice milk shake!
Reply:All of these answers are good. Don't forget the Popsicles!!
Reply:Jello, pudding, milk shakes, protein shakes, mashed potatoes from KFC... soft stuff. You don't want anything with particles that could get wedged into the big hole where your tooth was and cause infection or more bleeding.

It's probably good to call the office where you had the extraction done and ask them if they're not closed for the evening.

Don't forget to ice it! An ice pack on your cheek will reduce swelling and pain and make it heal much faster.
Reply:Ice cream, mashed potatoes, yogurt! You should eat only soft things because you don't want to remove the blood that has clotted in the extraction site because then you will get a dry socket and that will hurt really bad and it will take longer for the gums to heal. Good Luck and I hope you get to eat something good soon.
