Eye twitching and jaw pain following tooth extraction?

I had a top molar extracted after a failed root canal 12 months ago. It was a terrible and painful extraction (it should have been done by a surgeon).

About 6 months ago, my right eye (top lid) started to twitch and my bottom lip. I also experience pain in the right hand jaw joint, that suggests TMJ. Although the extraction was 12 months ago, I still have pain in the socket.

I suspect the nerve was damaged when the tooth was extracted. My dentist says that this cannot happen with a molar (only wisdom teeth). I cannot find any information about damaged nerves after a tooth extraction on google.

Has anyone experienced this? Can nerves be damaged after an extraction? Should I see an oral surgeon for TMJ or a neurologist????? Thanks, m
