Has anyone ever had a tooth extraction & also damaged the other tooth/teeth next to it?

Like for instance i had my upper tooth extracted 3 weeks ago but now the one next to it is sensative and the dentist says if worse comes to worse it might have to be extracted, why did or does this happen? because they didnt do the extraction right? is it their fault if the other tooth or teeth get damaged by having an extraction of a tooth next to it? thanks.

Has anyone ever had a tooth extraction %26amp; also damaged the other tooth/teeth next to it?
When I was a teenager (a fair few years ago now!) I had a couple of lower teeth removed, one on each side (far enough back not be be visible when I smile, thankfully.)

Anyway, for weeks afterwards I had sensitivity in the area next to one of the missing teeth. My dentist told me it was quite normal - it was mostly caused by the enamel on the side of the tooth not being used to being exposed to the open air.

Also it turned out that, like most people who have had an extraction, I was unknowingly putting my tongue in the gap all the bloody time. And this was aggravating the sensitivity.

He gave me some Sensodyne, and not too long after, the sensitivity ceased completely.

So, I'm very dubious about your dentist's comments about extracting a sensitive tooth. That seems way over the top to me. I believe they only extract as a last resort.

Might be worth getting a second opinion from another dentist.

Good luck. Hope the pain goes away soon.
Reply:It has happened to me, but it was along time ago. The tooth just crumbled. You may find it will just take some time to settle down. I don't think its the dentists fault
Reply:hiya i had a tooth taken out on the 13th november 2007 upper back next to wisdom tooth ! The dentist snapped it and poked around for a long time to get the tooth out... But ever since its been removed the tooth infront of the 1 he took out i couldnt eat or hardly use the toothbrush as it was really sensitive but now like 7 weeks later its ok now just feels strange with the gap lol .....good luck and dont worry it will be fine
