Gum healing after tooth extraction?
I had one tooth extraction on july 9th, got food in the my gum, the same day it got pulled, had to use something to get it out, this made it bleed of course, then after a week i eat something it went on the side of the area where the tooth was pulled, and made it hurt, but it didn't start bleeding and even just yesterday it bleed a little, cuz of the way i brushed my gums. I'm a smoker, and was wondering if my extraction site should be closed by now?, it's been exactly a week and 4 days. It doesn't hurt, I kept my blood clot, been brushing my teeth 2 times a day, and flossing once a day, and have been rinsing with salt water about 4 to 5 times a day..
^^this was 4 weeks ago...
now: it's still not completely healed, looks like a little dent, where they pulled the tooth, this sound strange?
Gum healing after tooth extraction? space still not closed..?
No, that is normal. It will take a few months for the hole to close entirely. As long as there is no bleeding or pain you are ok.
Reply:The 'dent' will always be there.
Reply:sounds like it is healing, maybe a little slower than normal, but it healing.
it will always feel like a little dent, but the longer time goes by, the less you will think about it or feel it.
Smoking (which I did for a long time) will slow the healing time.
Reply:Don't fret. Chances are that your body just takes longer to heal. It should be starting to close by now but certain activities/lifestyles (i.e. being a smoker, eating junk) can delay the actual healing process. Continue to do what your doing and give it time. If you are still concerned call your dentists office and confirm with the receptionist.
Reply:Not strange at all, quite normal in fact. It'll take awhile for the dent to completely heal and level (up to a year) and in alot of cases, will never be completely 'level', since there was never gum on that top part to begin with (your tooth was there).
From what you're explaining, sounds completely normal and part of the healing process, unless it is vividly red and sensitive, in which case you should consult a dental professional.
Reply:That "dent" will stay there for a long, long time. As long as there is no open wound, there is no problem. I know the dent feels funny... But it won't cause a problem.
I don't remember how long it took for my "dent" to fill.....seems like it was years....lol
(wisdom teeth)
Reply:Since you are a smoker, it takes SOOOO much longer to heal. It will eventually close up.. try still not to eat on that side, and continue with saltwater rinces and good hygiene. And kick the habit.. it will prevent.. well.. death.
Reply:Don't worry. I also has a little dent after my lower tooth pulled last month. It takes time to close the dent. Mine is not bleeding anymore though. My suggestion if you feel hurt and still bleeding..you should go to dentist just to check it out, incase of bacteria or some kind of infections exist (rarely occur though).
NB: I had pulled one of my upper tooth, and the other teeth besides that dent will close the gap...I am not sure why..but not entirely closed, although is nicer to eat now....this happens 2years ago. ^_^
