I went to my orthodontist yesterday to change the rubberbands on my braces, an since I got braces, my first orthodontist said I MIGHT need a tooth extraction by the end of the treatment. Since then i got a new orthodontist, and he says that my teeth are fine. He said that the only reason to pull teeth out now is for cosmetic reasons. And the worse thing about this is that my mom kept inisting that I get the extraction to the point that I started to cry when he said that he was going to pull the braces off those teeth to prepare for the extraction. My mom hasn't even asked me about it. She even said that the orthodontist just didn't want to give the service that I needed. It makes me feel really bad to think that she doesn't like my face. I know she's going to ignore me when I tell her I don't want the extraction, so I was just wondering if someone could help by telling me how it works. I would really appreciate it. I'm really scared so knowing the procedure might calm me down a little.
How does a tooth extraction work?
i've also put on my braces recently. and i've already pulled out two teeth. actually nothing to be afraid of. they'll just start by injecting aneasthetic into your gums. then they'll pull out your teeth. really, i didn't even feel a thing. after the extraction, they'll give you a few cotton buds so you can stop the bleeding. the bleeding will last for only a while, so no big deal.
anywayz, hope everything goes fine when u extract ur tooth. good luck =)
Reply:I am not really sure about how it goes since you have braces. However, what I can say is that when you get braces, it is extremely likely that a tooth/some teeth have to be extracted. it kind of goes with the territory. One of my sisters had 2 teeth extracted, the other had 4! They warned me about it which is why I am going with invisalign.
Reply:They would numb your mouth, and pull your tooth with tools made for this...or depending on where the tooth is...they might cut it out.
It's not going to be a walk in the park, but it's not the worse thing to have done!
If it's a wisdom tooth, you really should have them removed, they will try to come in later and could mess up all the work your braces did.
Reply:The process is VERY SIMPLE. They give you injections to dull the pain. (Local aneasthetic). The tooth is then extracted. (Pulled out with a pair of dental/surgical pliers). Nothing fancy. Not much blood, and less pain than a root canal.
Extractions are normally only done where the condition of the tooth is so bad that it cannot be fixed, or where it is necessary to create more space on gum for other teeth.
Reply:they rub some nasty tasting junk i believe is lanacane on your gum then stick a needle in your gum to inject more dope to kill the pain. the first numbs your gum for the later. then they take a pair off stainless steel pliers and Rip your tooth out of your skull. the needle and the noise of the tooth being ripped out is usually the worse part of it. that is unless its a surgical extraction and that involves scalpels and chisels and stuff. but in all its really not that bad, and sounds a whole lot worse than it is.
Reply:If you're worried about having a tooth pulled, don't be. It's really painless. First, they rub a little pain killer on your gums and then inject the site with a serious painkiller. It deadens all the nerves so much so that if the doctor didn't tell you and you had your eyes closed, you would even know that the tooth was being pulled. You'll have a little numbness in the area for a few hours, and some swelling for a couple of days. He may give you some painkillers for you to take for a couple of days. Don't worry so much about it. It's normal to feel apprehensive about it, no matter how much reassurance you may get. But, trust me, it's not as bad as you imagine it to be.
Reply:they give u an injection... to numd u... then they juz pull it out with a plier... u shd worry abt the aftermath of an extraction.. cos it hurts...
Reply:I had to get a tooth extracted. I didn't really hurt. The worst part was the bleeding. It was bleeding for like 5 hours.
