Back Tooth Extraction performed 2001 -Root Tip was left?

I had my back tooth extracted in 2001. While they were extracting it broke in several pieces. From what I understood the tooth was removed successfully. I started having pain in the area of where the tooth was removed. I went back to another dentist and they found a root tip was left in from the extraction. The new dentist said she would not extract the tooth unless I paid for a Ridge Preservation. From what I'm seeing the Ridge Preservation if one was going to be done should have been done when the extraction was done in 2001. I was also told that the original dentist should have done an Xray to see that the tooth was removed successfully. Would a Ridge Preservation after 5 Years from the original extraction be beneficial?

Bear in mind that I did not see you or your x-ray and I do not know how large the root tip is or whether it is the source of your pain.

If you need a buried root tip removed, it is going to take a lot of digging (scientific terminology) to get it out. This will remove a lot of bone. It is a good idea to replace this with an artificial (or sterilzed natural) substance so that you are not left with a huge defect. The ridge preservation would relate to your current surgery and not the the extraction from five years ago.

SOME root tip recoveries would not require this, but it depends on the size and location and future plans for the site, so I can't really say if you NEED it or not via modem.
Reply:I don't know but according to the medical news its possible to regrow the tooth if there is a root left. There's some new device on the market, approved as well that applied for treatment can regrow the tooth. It's like a mini microwave.
Reply:Having a Ridge Preservation or do you mean Bridge would be done because having the root in there has probably shifted your teeth and caused you to have an incorrect bite. This could lead to other teeth receiving to much pressure when you bite and the stress could cause you to have, in the future, the teeth around that one to become infected and you would have to have a root canal and crown. If you do not like the Dentist opinion you can go to another one. I would call the Dentist that did the original extraction and tell him what happened and have him complete the job at no charge to you. He did make a mistake that has caused you pain and extra cost. You can request your x-Ray from the current Dentist because it is yours and you paid for the X-Ray and don't let the Dentist tell you different. Take that X-Ray to the Dentist that did the original Dentist. As a matter of fact a patient is allowed to read their Medical Chart from any Doctor or Dentist they see.

Go back to the original Dentist and he will know if he doesn't take care of the tooth at no charge he could be sued.
