I'm 15 and I'm getting a tooth extraction today on one of my top back molars. I've never had a filling or extraction before and I'm really scared. I've had braces and I was wondering if anybody knew how much it would hurt compared to getting braces? They said they would just give me a shot of anesthetic with a needle and then pull it out. How long will it take? Will it still hurt? I know it can't take that long because my sister is getting 2 teeth extracted before me and they have only booked her in for half an hour, but how long will the actual pulling of the tooth out take?
I'm getting it pulled out because I am going to have one wisdom tooth coming down when I am older and they said this way I won't have to get my wisdom tooth removed and it won't muck up my straight teeth when it comes down.
Tooth extraction - I'm really scared, please help?
I actually had a tooth pulled about a year ago. I was terrified and worried going in about what the experience would be like. After the anesthetic was shot into the area, the doctor waited maybe a minute, then he got his tools and pulled my tooth. I only felt pressure. There was absolutely no pain or discomfort involved. I even went out and bought Ibuprofen because it was suggested by the hygienist. Honestly even after the anesthesia wore off, I felt no pain at all. I was able to eat, drink without problems.
The things to be careful about is: you must keep the blood clot in the hole, if it falls out, it will create a dry socket, which is excruciating from what I heard. You also must be very careful about brushing your teeth. Stay away from that area. Don't use store bought mouthwash to rinse. Instead use warm salt water several times a day. This will allow your hole to close and heal much faster. You cannot drink through straws or smoke.
Reply:they will numb the area %26amp; the second it's pulled you will have instant relief.
if you are scared tell the dentist before hand.
they may be able to give you some kind of sedative to ease your anxiety ~
don't worry
Reply:you're strong, don't worry, they give you a bunch of little shots around the tooth, and you hear it, which is the worst part, but you just feel a little tug and that's it. You will be a little sore for a couple of days and 100% in a week or so. Don't worry. Relax
Reply:I had to get 4 teeth pulled before they put on my bottom braces. Neither one is really bad, but i advise some pain killers about 20 minutes before the novicane wears off.
I got knocked out for my teeth, but I've had teeth pulled awak and it isn't that bad. You feel some pressure and maybe a feeling like you are getting stuck with pins, but after that it's just really sore for a while. The thing that is the worst is the blood because it bleeds for a while, but you'll be fine after a couple of hours and a milkshake. It shouldn't take that long, either. About 5 minutes for the shot to kick in, another few to work around the tooth and pull it free, then you just have to hold some gauze in place and off you go.
Reply:You will be completely numb and not feel a thing, except for pressure. If you do feel anything be sure to ask for more numbing shots. Ask the doctor/dentist to prescribe you painkillers for after the local anesthetic wears off, that's when you will feel it, and don't trust them when they say to just take a couple advil. And Ibuprofen will help with pain and inflammation after.

Reply:Don't worry so much! It will be numb. Ask the dentist to give you some pain killer- Novocaine in case you need it. Most of the time, you will not need it. Good Luck!
