How does a tooth extraction work?

I went to my orthodontist yesterday to change the rubberbands on my braces, an since I got braces, my first orthodontist said I MIGHT need a tooth extraction by the end of the treatment. Since then i got a new orthodontist, and he says that my teeth are fine. He said that the only reason to pull teeth out now is for cosmetic reasons. And the worse thing about this is that my mom kept inisting that I get the extraction to the point that I started to cry when he said that he was going to pull the braces off those teeth to prepare for the extraction. My mom hasn't even asked me about it. She even said that the orthodontist just didn't want to give the service that I needed. It makes me feel really bad to think that she doesn't like my face. I know she's going to ignore me when I tell her I don't want the extraction, so I was just wondering if someone could help by telling me how it works. I would really appreciate it. I'm really scared so knowing the procedure might calm me down a little.

If the 2nd dentist still insists on extracting a tooth, then go for it. They know better. Tooth extraction for cosmetic reasons mean you have an extra tooth that could affect the rest of your teeth and make it move. The fact that you have braces is to place your entire set in its proper place. ONLY if the 2nd dentist says you need it. If your mom insists on it, ask the 2nd dentist to speak to her to shut her up.

Reply:before they extract the tooth, they will give you some injections. i had two at the front of my gum and one at the back, all that for a tooth. but the injections will lessen the pain as it's local anaesthesia. after that , though, your whole jaw will feel sore.
Reply:well, i'm old enough to remember the time when they were medically necessary sometimes, and i can't really imagine the procedure has changed much since. basically, it's no big deal. the dentist will inject a local anaestethic into the side of your mouth where he/ she has to extract the tooth and then get a pliers and pull it out. then they'll put a tampon on the wound to soak up the blood and you'll have to bite on it for a bit until the flow has stopped. you might need to paracetamol for a day or two afterwards, because if it's a big molar or a wisdom tooth you might experience some pain when the anaesthetic has worn off, but it's not the kind of pain that would drive you up the wall. your dentist might also tell you not to have hot drinks for a couple of hours after the extraction to help the healing process. good luck, it's really nothing to worry about! :-)
Reply:They give you a big needle of Novocaine or the like and after it numbs up they reach in with a plier like tool and pull like hell. They may need to twist and bang away at the tooth if it doesn't want to come out but eventually it comes out. Screw your mother it's your mouth.You ask the dentist if it is essential, if he says no, tell him DO NOT PULL! Report your mother to child services for abuse!

Ok, they'll make you lie on your back and put a little white napkin on your chest .First they will inject your gum closest to the teeth that need extracting. The injection is an anesthetic that numbs the muscle and flesh around that area. Then they go in and secure the tooth with a extractor gadget and then pull it out. Suffice it to say its not a pleasant thing to have done.

Reply:When i had my braces put in when i was 16 my orthodontist had told me that i needed both of my back teeth extracted in order to get the best possible results. They basically anesthetised my gums with a needle it was just a local anesthetic, when they made sure i couldn't feel anything she began pulling the tooth out with an object which looked like sheers, i could feel her pulling but not the pain, after she was done i couldn't feel anthing for a couple of hours, after that it wasn't really hurting i just couldn't eat anything hot or cold for about 2 days after that i was fine. But after I took my braces out 3 yrs after a different orthodontists had told me there was no need for me to have extracted my tooth, so please make sure that you seek several opinions before going aheah, good luck
