Tooth extraction?

I was told by my orthodontist that for my ortho treatment, I will need to have three teeth extracted , lower left first bicuspid, lower right first

bicuspid and upper first bicuspid (there are not four teeth extractions beacuse I am missing my upper right second bicuspid).

I can undersatnd from orthodontic mechinics standpoint, it's probably easier to move/retract the front teeth, so I agreed to have my lower two first bicuspids extracted. My peoblem here is with the Upper first bicuspid to be extracted. Since the one I am missing on my right side is a second bicuspid, and I still have a very healthy first bicuspid, I would think it would make more sense to take the Upper left second (not the first) bicuspid out. My ortho said if I insist doing that, he can, but I will have to sign a waiver saying if the end result is not ideal, he can not be responsible for that. Why is this? My ortho is a nice person. But I don't know why he is insiting taking the second bicuspid out

Tooth extraction?
It is really impossible to give good advice on this here, as we can't see your teeth or your x-rays. He may be considering that you have more crowding in the area that he wants to remove the tooth Addidionally, if you have third molars that might try to make an appearance, he may be trying to save some room for that.....to help you in the long run from getting the third molar removed. It really just simple sounds like most of your crowding is toward the front and he is trying to get that taken care of first. It does not sound like he is doing anything wrong and he cares about your outcome.

Maybe talk to him again, asking him to explain his reasoning with a model of teeth there, so he can point to each area, showing you what he is thinking ..

Good Luck and Straight Smiles!

Reply:I think the short answer is to seek a 2nd opinion.
Reply:Seriously...listen to the orthodontist....

he didnt just come from nowhere... he spent half of his life studying this stuff so yeah he probably noes what hes talking abt..

i had 3 totally healthy teeth taken out before my treatment also... [trust me i was NOT ready to get them out either...my dad even went to tell the ortho tht we didnt want me to get my teeth pulled]

its been a year i had braces...and now i have to agree with the ortho
