Tooth extraction?

will i be put into sleep?

if so, how?

Tooth extraction?
This will depend on several factors. If the tooth is located so that the dentist can easily pull it they may choose to give just numbing shots. But if the tooth has multiple roots, is in the rear and appears to require extra work to get it out then you may need additional anesthesia. Some dentists will give "laughing gas" nitrous oxide, some will use a drug similar to sodium penathol which will put you to sleep (a general anesthetic). Not all dentists are licensed or trained to put you under a general anesthetic ask before your appointment. Good Luck -k-
Reply:it depends on your dentist. some put you to sleep, others use just Novocaine, and others use laughing gas. i would say call your dentist beforehand and ask which you will be getting. the novocaine is just a shot in the gums that numbs everything around the tooth. for laughing gas they put a mask over ur nose and mouth and it smells kind of fruity. and it makes you just go out of it for a while. to be put to sleep they give you a shot in the arm. good luck!
Reply:It all depends. If your teeth are not impacted and they can be removed easily they may give the option of sleep or just a numbing agent. (A couple places even sometimes off gas-but it is not often.) If your teeth are impacted or having several removed they will prob. rec. putting you to sleep. However, if you are seeing an emergency denist and not an oral surgeon then they will prob only numb the area. (To put you a sleep they give you a shot in the arm, to numb the area they put a shot (or 2-3) in the area of the tooth that is to be pulled, gas- you huff on nitrous gas.)
Reply:I have had 6 - 7 extractions done (5 at one time), and many different procedures including root canals (multiple times) and fillings ... I have NEVER been put to sleep or given laughing gas ... they are both viable options for everyone, but it my experience of having all this done (by 6 different dentists in 2 different states), I've only ever been given novacaine.
Reply:A tooth extraction can be quite simple. The dentist will swab the area with a pain number. After the area is numb he will inject a pain number into the area surrounding the tooth. When entire area is numb, he will cut or pull the tooth. If the tooth is impacted (under other teeth) or there are multiple teeth to pull, some people prefer to be put to sleep. If you are put to sleep the process is quite simple for you. You sit in the oral surgeon's chair, and he will put an IV in your arm. Within seconds your eyes will get heavy and, when you awaken the process is over.
