Tooth extraction?

3 weeks ago I had an upper molar extracted. Everything went well but now I have 2 sharp white peices of something coming out of my gum higher up than where the tooth was. Is this peices of tooth coming out? I know I will call my dentist but just odd.

Tooth extraction?
More than likely it's bone fragments or small bits of the tooth. You said the tooth was decayed beyond repair, that makes it very fragile with so much of the tooth rotten so when the dr. extracts it, it's very common for little pieces of the root to break off down in the bone. After about 2-4 weeks (right in your time frame), these pieces can work their way to the surface; it's your bodys way of "cleaning house". If you can get a grip on a piece feel free to wiggle it loose and throw it away. If they are sharp and splinter-like and you can't get them out, go back to your dentist and have him remove them. It's a perfectly normal thing to happen. Good luck.
Reply:possibly the stitches still if they didnt' use catgut?
Reply:why did they take it out? wisdom tooth? if it was did they cut it into pieces and pull it out? could be a piece left over, or when he was pulling it out he could have snapped the roots off and not seen it... could be a supernumery tooth (extra wierd one that sometime grow) and maybe that was why he pulled thwe molar so no overcrowding occurred...gice the doc a ring.
Reply:Probably a bone sliver. very comon actually. They usually take a week or two to work to the surface, he just lifts it out , just like a sliver in your finger.
Reply:yeah, it's a piece of bone. i had my 3 of my wisdom teeth out last year (they weren't impacted) and had the same thing happen on the bottom left. it was annoying but it worked it's way out in a few weeks. don't worry.
