Tooth extraction?

I had my tooth pulled on monday (31/03/08) and it still hurts immenseley. does anyone know how long the pain lasts and/or how long it will last. its now wednesday and this is the worst i feel so far... i cant eat so i cant take painkillers. please help

Sounds like 'Dry socket' to me! Do you smoke at all?


I had a tooth extracted in 2007 and the pain lasted for about 3 weeks as i developed dry socket. Im petrified of dentists so self treated at home but i do believe the dentist will be able to pack the space to sort this out.


If like me you dont want to go to the dentist, i recommend swilling your mouth with warm salt water every half hour! Eat soft things like soup and boiled eggs.

Reply:I had a tooth pulled on Saturday and my jaw is still achy - nothing major though. You dont have a dry socket? This is when the blood clot thats in the hole (dont know what else to call it!) thats left where the tooth was is dislodged and it is supposed to be very very painful. Get in touch with your dentist, as my dentist told me that dry sockets can be treated. Best of luck
Reply:yah shoulda been fine by now, you may have an infection, you could call your dentist or go back in to see if you can get some antibiotics to clear it up.

Reply:Of course you can take painkillers you dont chew them just swallow them. stop being soft and take a pill or two
Reply:I had this, too, it was due to an inflammation in the jaw bone and I needed antibiotics. After I had started taking them, the pain was gone within two days. Go see the dentist.
